Challenge
The Health Insurance Company manages highly sensitive health insurance data containing personal and protected health information. The project required strict adherence to HIPAA compliance and security standards while enabling reliable data ingestion, cleansing, and analytics.
Although Logic Intelligence initially recommended a modern cloud analytics architecture using Azure SQL, Databricks, and Power BI, stakeholders expressed concerns about adopting those technologies for this engagement. Instead, the client required the solution to be implemented entirely within a secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual server environment under their control. Additional challenges included cleansing inconsistent data, combining multiple datasets, and performing complex joins that required fuzzy matching logic rather than straightforward keys. Data security was paramount, including strict controls over data handling and disposal after project completion.
Services
Logic Intelligence provided secure data engineering and analytics services tailored to HIPAA-compliant environments. Services included solution design within a secure virtual infrastructure, development of Python-based data ingestion and transformation processes, implementation of data cleansing and standardization logic, and integration of new data with existing datasets.
The team also designed and implemented advanced matching logic to support fuzzy joins across datasets where deterministic keys were not available. In addition, Logic Intelligence followed strict data handling and remediation procedures, including complete sanitization of development machines at the conclusion of the engagement to ensure no residual sensitive data remained.
Solution
Logic Intelligence delivered a secure, Python-based data analytics solution hosted entirely within the client-provided HIPAA-compliant virtual server environment. Using Anaconda and Pandas, the team built automated processes to ingest CSV files from source directories, cleanse and normalize the data to meet standard requirements, and combine it with existing datasets.
The solution applied dynamic, variable-based fuzzy matching logic to resolve complex joins where traditional identifiers were insufficient. Processed datasets were written back to secured target folders as CSV outputs, enabling downstream consumption while maintaining strict security controls. Upon project completion, all Logic Intelligence development systems were wiped and restored to manufacturer specifications to eliminate any possibility of retained sensitive data.
